A fun little ditty and funner video. Based on a true-ish story. Ok not really, other than the names and the stainless steel car, all else is pure fiction.
I have spent the last two winters ( 2.5 months at a time ) down in Mexico in a small fishing village. We rent a small house out in the burbs with the locals, there are some gringos around but most of the gringos stay closer to the centre of town. We have friends down there that also stay the winter, in fact they introduced us to the town, which I am very grateful. Anyway this last winter they had guests staying with them that live in the same apartment building as them that we also have a rental unit in and may eventually retire into once my wife and my financial planner tell me its time. Anyway, again, we really took to this couple, they are genuine and a lot of fun. During a few evenings and nights out with them listeneing to local music and telling stories, I was jotting down interesting phrases, as I do, that may make it into songs. They spoke of friends of their's named Jonny Smaak and Virginie. How do you not write a song about a guy named Jonny Smaak? And he owned a Delrean at one time. So some phrases from those nighrs are:
Jonny Smaak and Virginie - you've been introduced to the above
Stainless steel car - the Delorean he once owned
Patty, with a Y - she was a gogo dancer in her youth, and told our friends all about it
Salvadore knows a guy - a great musician and guitarist who was playing at a restaurant and other great musicians just kept coming up and jamming with him. Someone said "Well, if you ever need a musician, apparently call Salvadore. Salvadore, knows a guy"
Surfing in the desert? The song reminded me - vibe wise - of our other tune - Nobody Offers You a Pickle With Your Tea - a definite surf-style song, so this is a play on that video.
